Paint to music

Few days ago, we met up for the last class together to have some fun and release stress..

The plan was we'd have 2 canvases each, along with 2 types of music - pop (prepared by us), followed by classical (prepared by Ms. Lisa) - & we'd create artworks by just listening to them.

I really looked forward to this as it wasn't based on how good our skills were at painting. Instead, all we needed to do was enjoy the music flowing through us and translate it onto canvas, any way you want to.

We were allowed to use any technique, any medium, any thing we wanted to incorporate into our out artworks.

Seeing all of it felt like we were selling our prints and there was a rush of emotion that warmed me up - it felt so real & made me really happy & proud of everyone.

And with that, I'd like to conclude my 2DD class w/ Ms. Lisa for semester 2. The lessons I've learnt throughout have definitely become a part of me now, something I'm truly thankful for.

During our exhibition in the gallery, we had a small class meeting to discuss our next activity.

I've never tried it before & so was quite excited.
Raymond, Angie, Jean & I formed a group and we each would have an A3 sized cloth to work with at the workshop. The objective was that we'd create a sequence from one theme we narrowed down, but if seperated, each of ours' would still look good.

Indentity

Today in class we were given a small insight on monograms..

What- MONOGRAMS?

Well, a monogram is a motif made by overlapping or combining two or more letters or other graphemes to form one symbol. Monograms are often made by combining the initials of an individual or a company, used as recognizable symbols or logos.
A monogram will always consist of letters, but not just placed together simply, that would otherwise be known only as a cypher.


& this, was to be our new assignment. Branding ourselves.

I realized - halfway while looking through references we had to find - that I really liked the logos that supports the company's objectives further. Like, it is what it is. Their logos portray what the company does.

and so that was my base when I started brainstorming/sketching ideas for my own monogram. I would think about parts of my personality that could come through in my monogram.

After that, we had to "print" them onto our 6 different "products". I narrowed my list down to:

- mug

- pencil case

- notebook

- clear file

- box

- tote bag

...stuff I'd use daily

Brain juice, patience and couple of weeks later..

What's Your Square?

So these past few weeks I've not been feeling well... :(
& I can't seem to figure out where the fever/flu came from! Must be stress taking its toll on me body.

We have completed yet another assignment! (The floating exhibition has been put on hold for now.)

This time, about how a square can be more than just 'that'.
The assignment required 2 squares to be expanded : Symmetrically & Asymmetrically, by cut-out and no extra pieces could be added on, nor thrown away.

Due to my absence from this lesson I came back in ultra blur mode - which did not help when I was asking classmates about requirements, I ended up asking the wrong people, who were equally as puzzled about what to do. *sigh*

And so, I had lesser time to get it all together and come up with an idea BUT I decided, rather than making it difficult and mess it up in the middle trying to rush it, I would come up with something simple  that would not be seen that way.

ILLUSIONS!

In hindsight, they are not too complicated to cut out. But arranging them in a composition that would look confusing takes a lil' effort.

The following week, we recieved a text from Ms. Lisa to be creative with our presentations - so this happened.

With the new upcoming project in line, we were to gather and come up with as much as 20 different themes.

I think I'm in the middle of pitching an idea.. *crazy hands*

The excitement in the room was so strong, ideas were formed even before words had a chance,

if they were solid, we would literally be hurling these chunks of imagination around the room

and no one could stop us.

hahaha.

But seriously, we were so noisy!

I came up with "illusions"

The themes we came up with ranged from as mild as patriotisme, lake gardens, to as extravagant as outer space, candyland and jurassic park.

Then, with the help of facebook's voting system, we narrowed it down to 6 themes.

A group of sketchers and writers will be appointed to each theme & proposals were to be drawn out & presented to Ms. Lisa for finalization.

While Hui Yu was sketcher, I was a writer for the chosen theme Jurassic Park & here are our ideas:

Buuut,  because of the time frame, we had to think about practicality and aim for something more achievable.

You could say, we were too enthusiastic and ambitious.

After discussing further with Ms. Lisa + the whole class, we agreed on the theme:

MALAYSIA.

& since m'sia day & Independance day was coming up, it would be great to join in!
